Age One |
Jack at 13 months in Jacksonville, Florida, Navy housing apartment.
He did a lot of crawling on a dirty rug as you can see by the look of his knees.
(The landlady wasn't very much into scrubbing before she rented the place to
us.)
Behind the curtain is a closet which held a very large bureau drawer which was placed on the floor. The Railroad that we had used to ship our baby furniture from Fitchburg to Florida... which included Jack's baby crib... was "on Strike". So the large drawer was used as a bed for Jack for a few weeks, until the strike was settled. He took it in stride and rather enjoyed the experience.
Being able to climb out of the makeshift bed at bedtime was like a game to him.

Age Three |
Still smiling, even though he now has a baby sister to contend with.
I don't ever remember Jack as being jealous of his siblings.

Age Four |
This is a picture of Jack and his baby sister Pat.
Big brother Jack is 4 years old in this picture.
When we returned from Florida, after Ed's discharge from the Navy, we moved into a Veteran's housing project in Fitchburg.
Our goal was to save enough money to build a home, where we could raise our family in more spacious, comfortable and loving surroundings. We lived in Veteran's housing for five years, then moved to the home on Theresa Street, that Ed and Uncle Dolore built for our growning family. By that time we had two more children to love, and cherish, which made a total of four.
Tim, our youngest child, was born nine years later.

Age Five |
Jack, sister Pat and Rick. Jack is 5 years old in this picture.
This was taken at Grandma and Grandpa Shea's home in Needham, Mass.
For many years our family and Ed's brother Joe and their children celebrated Thanksgiving with the Shea Grandparents. It was always a fun time.

Age Six |
This one is of a six year old Jack, Patty Anne, and Mike who was ten months old at the time. Mike was the baby in the family for nine years until Timmy came along.
The picture was shot during our final days at the Veterans Project on Normandy Road in Fitchburg. We moved to our new home on Theresa Street in Fitchburg a few days after this picture was taken.

Age Eight |
Jack in Needham MA.
I think this was the first fish Jack ever caught.
Jack loved many sports and fishing was one of them. When Jack was very young he went fishing with Pepere LeBlanc where the catch of the day was usually Horned Pout [small catfish]. After a successful night Pepere would clean the fish and fry them in hot oil. What a treat!
Around the age of ten, Jack and his cousin Tommy rode their bikes to favorite fishing places in Fitchburg. During his later years, when he came to the USA on business or a wedding or family reunion events, he and his brother Tim tried to arrange a sidetrip of fishing at Plum Island.

Age Nine |
This is a picture of Jack displaying the trophies that he won in a "car modeling contest". The contest was sponsored by a "Hobby Store" which sold kits for building models of everything imagineable. Airplanes, cars, tanks, doll houses, ships, trucks etc. Jack, Rick and Mike had a great time re-designing popular cars.
I remember supplying them with a leopard patterned material for the auto upholstery. Pretty "cool" and original. One of the things I enjoyed most was helping the children with projects for school or just plain entertainment. Teaching them to read, sing, color and paint pictures and enjoy music was also great fun.
Ed, their dad, enjoyed helping them to achieve their goals by teaching them to swim, toss a football or baseball. They learned other building skills by watching their dad plant grass, flowers, paint walls and build things out of wood.
Jack, as well as all of our children had many special, hidden talents that were later revealed to us as they grew into young adults.
