Age Twelve |
Jack loved clouds and several years before he died he was studying cloud formations, taking pictures, and keeping a journal.
The young boy with Jack is Dickie Shea, a cousin and very close friend of his. Dickie died of leukemia when he was barely thirty years of age.
Their greeting on the other side must have been a joyous one!

Age Thirteen |
With sister Pat and brothers Rick, Mike and our newest addition to the family... baby Timmy. This is the first picture that included the new baby.
Jack was absolutely thrilled when he heard that we were going to have another baby in our family. Mike, our youngest child at the time, was nine years old.
Even though Jack was in high school (which could have been embarrassing considering the age span)... he couldn't wait to announce the good news to all of his friends.
Jack and Tim remained the closest of friends, even after they moved on to separate chapters in their lives. Our children continued to have a close bond in spite of the distance between Texas, Scotland, Nevada and Massachusetts.

Jack teaching his baby brother Timmy about guitars.
Jack was self taught and he played a guitar on a daily basis throughout his lifetime. The name of his first band was "The Knights of the Round Raisin". Pretty original I thought at the time.
Timmy lost interest in guitars and preferred to play the drums. Notice the "Beatles" poster in the background, a collectors item for sure, but it was misplaced over the years and we never did locate it..

Jack and several members of the Notre Dame Forensic, debating and dramatic interpretation team.
At the Massachusetts State Speech Festival, Jack won first place in the dramatic interpretation category with his presentation of the "Hairy Ape" by Eugene O'Neil. His effective performance of the emotional conflict in his piece was "magnificent to see and hear" and earned him a seat at the National Speech competition that year. This was one of many first place winning events in Jack's debating career.
Due to his scholastic achievements, Jack has been recognized as the most outstanding Crusader that Notre Dame has ever seen for his achievements in debate and was awarded the highest honor possible when he graduated from Notre Dame High... the "All Crusader Awarded". He was accepted and received scholarships at the five colleges where he applied. One of which was Notre Dame ... He chose Harvard.
He received a full tuition scholarship to Harvard University where he performed in numerous dramatic events and was once more recognized as "one of the best dramatic actors that came out of Harvard in many years".

This Picture was taken on the front lawn of our house in Fitchburg, on Theresa Street. We had the home built by our uncle 'Dolore' who was one of the men that Pepere hunted with. He also owned Beagle dogs. The picture was taken on a Sunday after we had been to Holy Rosary Church for mass. You can see part of the church roof in the background. The church was built just a few years after we had moved to Theresa Street. The Pastor of this church was great with children. He always carried chewing gum in his pockets to give to them [which i think helped keep them quiet during mass!] Jack, Rick and Mike were altar boys at that church.
Jack at the Prom
This image is of Jack and his date Karen, all dessed up for the Notre Dame Senior Prom.
High School has come to an end and the following year Jack would be attending Harvard University on scholarship. This is the last time we saw Jack all dressed up in a sport jacket and tie.
Dress code at Harvard in the sixties was jeans with holes in the knees, Eastern Indian type shirts with no collar and very long hair.
